As someone who eats to live and values simplicity, finding my go-to smoothie has made everyday life easier.
Let me explain.
Over the past few years, drinking a blueberry smoothie has become a staple part of my morning routine. My smoothie journey first began as a desperate effort to naturally help clear my acne. Eventually, I became pregnant, and it turned into my pregnancy smoothie (thankfully, my skin cleared up on its own during that time). Nine months later, after having my baby, it became my postpartum smoothie.
And now, it’s simply my everyday smoothie—my go-to, my life smoothie.
Why a go-to smoothie simplifies life:
- You don’t need to think twice about what to have for breakfast. This smoothie is usually my “I’m home all day” breakfast. It also serves as a light reset after the night before’s dinner.
- If I had a heavy or late lunch, I can easily have my smoothie for a light, easy dinner.
- It’s consistently nutritious (especially when it’s tempting to grab something less healthy)
- It’s always available since I keep the ingredients stocked at home. Even if I’m missing an ingredient or two, as long as I have blueberries, it works.
- It keeps you from having bags of other frozen fruit that only takes up space in the freezer—I could never finish them.
- Best part: you never need to look up the recipe—it becomes second nature, and it becomes your own.
Here’s how I make my very own blueberry smoothie:
- A cup or so of frozen blueberries (I use Costco’s organic blueberries)
- Water until it just covers your blueberries (or milk of your choice)
- 1 serving of collagen peptides (I use Orgain)
- Half or one whole banana, depending on how ripe it is
- Ground flax seeds, hemp seeds, and chia seeds (about half to one serving of each)
- Top it off with greens (spinach or kale)
Blend, then transfer to your smoothie cup of the day (one of my simple joys).
I am no smoothie expert—this is the one and only smoothie I make, and I keep it simple.
Do I ever get sick of it?
Not really. Some mornings, I might crave something more savory, and that’s OK—I just skip the smoothie that day. But most days, I’m up and blending. Even my six month old is used to the sound of the blender.
Remember, I eat to live, so food doesn’t hold much authority over my life. If it’s nutritious, that’s enough for me.
If you’re anything like me, find a smoothie you enjoy—whether it’s for taste or nutrition—and let it become your go-to smoothie. It may simplify your everyday life more than you expect.
Do you have a go-to smoothie? If so, share your recipe—we just might inspire each other.
